ABOUT
It is often said that employees are your greatest assets. If tropical fish were your greatest assets (go with me here...), then the environment of the tank, what they do and do not do, and how they interact with each other, would be your greatest priorities. You wouldn't leave it to chance, because of what may happen to the fish individually, and collectively.
The design of work, and work environments, really is no different - save for two things: (1) unlike fish, you expect your employees to be productive; and (2) when a good employee performs badly, or leaves, the costs are enormous to the organization, and to other employees. Conversely, a thriving workplace is an amazing thing for all concerned - individual employees, collective culture, and the bottom line, through high performance and retention.
But it doesn't happen by chance. The design of work, and work environments requires understanding the variables at play, their importance; as well as connections between them, and how to influence them. Here's where I can help you.

Marcus J. Fila
Founder and Principal Consultant
I am a speaker, consultant, and researcher on designing work and work environments for greater motivation, performance, and commitment; and reduced work stress, burnout, and unwanted turnover. My interests developed during ten years in business development and senior executive recruitment positions in the US and UK. As a headhunter, I was literally paid to make turnover happen, but became more interested in the mess left behind when good people leave. So, I turned my attention to designing work and work environments to be positive places where good employees would want to stay, and thrive - contributing massively to the bottom line, and making the life on managers and leaders infinitely easier.
I now train leaders and managers on these issues. I engage the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, and with foundations and associations. I am also an associate professor of management, speak at international conferences, and have published research in leading international journals and book volumes. Currently, I am writing a book for leaders and managers on how to face their employees' work stress head-on, and beat it through better job and work environment design.

My educational background includes a Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Analysis from Western Michigan University, an M.Sc. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Ohio University, and an M.B.A. from Kingston Business School, London, UK.
